Letters to the Editor

I spent two-and-one-half hours at a meeting to inform me and others how to, what to and just what we would need if a major-scale earthquake were to hit San Pedro. COPE preparedness is the organization, which was sponsored by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital. We were told to put necessary items under the bed, such as sturdy shoes, a hard hat, medications and gloves, and how to organize a neighborhood group to make sure we would be there for each other. We were also told about making sure utilities were safely turned off and just how to accomplish this in the proper way. These are only some of the things we were informed about and I would advise that, when a meeting is held in your area, to be there. It will help with the panic that may set in and also save many lives.
