The COPE Preparedness Board of Directors  is a dedicated group of professionals with expertise in various areas of emergency management in both their careers and in their voluntary community endeavors.  In the last few weeks several of our board members have contributed to the status of community preparedness by participating in a weekly radio show dedicated to emergency management issues specific to Los Angeles County.  COPE Preparedness Board member participants in the weekly broadcast include Marcelle McCullough, Jeff Robinson, CEM and Lonna Calhoun, CEM.  Please listen to thier interviews to gather a comprehensive analysis of emergency management issues.

Marcelle McCullough

Marcelle McCullough, Community Relations Officer, Palos Verdes Estates Police Department. Having grown up as a military dependent, Ms. McCullough has travelled extensively in the US and abroad. Since settling down in the South Bay in 2000, Ms McCullough has been devoted to community emergency preparedness since 2005. A Community Emergency Response Team member and CERT certified trainer she brings to Palos Verdes Estates a wealth of knowledge in disaster preparedness, response and recovery.Her skills in serving with a variety of volunteer groups including CERT, The Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, Chamber and Visitors Bureau (RB) and COPE-Preparedness, to name a few, make her extremely qualified for her role in community relations. Ms. McCullough also brings to Palos Verdes Estates her skills as a corporate meeting and event planner. Ms. McCullough lives in South Redondo Beach.

Jeff Robinson, CEM

After a brief stint in the US Army, Jeff started as a volunteer firefighter in Maryland on April 6, 1976. After his initial training, Jeff worked his way up through the ranks. He became an EMT in 1979 and then went on to become an Officer in the Fire Department in 1980.  He also became a Haz-Mat Technician in 1993. Jeff also started volunteering with the Dorchester County Civil Defense Agency (now Dorchester County Emergency Management) in 1979. On January 23rd of 2012, Jeff took on the challenging position of Executive Director of Area G Disaster Management where he works with all the 14 cities of the South Bay where he assists them in the continuing development of their Emergency Management programs. Jeff Robinson, CEM has achieved the International Association of Emergency Managers IAEM/CEM® certification joining a select group of only 1600 Certified Emergency Managers Internationally.

Lonna Calhoun, CEM

In 2003 Lonna founded and continues to direct a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, Community Outreach Promoting Emergency Preparedness (COPE Preparedness) whose mission is “Promoting Emergency Preparedness through Proactive Community Outreach”. COPE Preparedness is recognized as a community model for its collaborative efforts and capabilities in networking and aligning with the public and private sector and citizens alike to develop an integrated emergency management system to improve capabilities in emergency mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. COPE Preparedness offerings include a monthly ENewsletter, interactive web site and Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) preparedness programs in English and Spanish.
Because Lonna believes collaboration is a critical emergency management component she is an American Red Cross Ambassador; Regional Associate for The Great California Shakeout; an Ambassador for the City of Los Angeles Neighborhood Ambassador Program; a voting member on the VOAD, Emergency Network Los Angeles (ENLA).   Participation in these entities has expanded Lonna’s understanding of and increased her motivation to solve the varied challenges faced in the field of emergency management today. Lonna provides emergency management consultation for corporations and municipalities while
applying extensive business, teaching and leadership expertise to her passion for emergency management. She provides project management for Traiden Global Solutions (TGS); resource management expertise to Major Survival, Inc. where she provides logistical consultation to select clients; and most recently as the Emergency Management Consultant for the City of Rancho
Palos Verdes, CA where she directed their largest emergency exercise to date and designed and implemented a 40 Hour Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Staff training. Lonna has achieved the International Association of Emergency Managers, IAEM/CEM®, certification thus joining a select group of only 1440 internationally Certified Emergency Managers. She is also a certified Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Management Professional and a certified Business Continuity Expert. Lonna emphasizes that the actions that we take today will affect our well-being tomorrow. Her
unique attributes, skills, experience, expertise and dedication enables Lonna to articulate her passion to improve the status of emergency management for the entities, communities and companies she works with.
