Great article.

PPBI (Public & Private Businesses, Inc) is a non-profit dedicated to fostering just such relationships.

While the article highlights state-level efforts, we tend to focus on individual efforts of businesses and local emergency managers, fostor dialogue, and improve cooperation. Just as all disasters are local, so are all partnerships.

I think that Lonna has a very good point and that the meetings of these proceedings need be better attended by the community to see what the long term impacts of the prospected project will have on the humans, the coastline; as well as it's affects on wild life and fish populations. Money is great but you can't buy your health- It's only something you can protect.

I am so happy to see this article. As I talk about neighborhood preparedness this subject about the difficulty of knowing your neighbors today is continually being brought up as a roadblock. I am excited to have some new ideas to share with the audience on how to know your neighbors and get them prepared.

Great article! I found it to be motivating and a reminder that we need to prepare for the unthinkable. Encouraging is see preparedness messages being fortified.

In many natural disasters more damage to human lives are done after the actual event occurs. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina the spread of hepatitis A, cholera, tuberculosis, and typhoid fever was high, all in relation to the contamination of food and drinking water supplies in the city. Being prepared with adequate emergency hygiene and sanitation items are essential.

Ruth- we understand your valid concern. Try to come to the next COPE Preparedness Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) program. It will compliment and expand on the ARC training. You will receive notice on date and locations soon.
Thanks,
Lonna

I reside in a Senior Citizen complex in Gardena. The majority of it residents are elderly averaging by my guess 74yrs up to 90yrs plus. Many have mobility issues or otherwise infirm also there are many that don't speak English. I have concerns for many here in the event of a great emergency event. I recently set up an Emergency Preparedness Presentation through the American Red Cross, but don't feel that this is adequate.
