Jeff Robinson, CEM

Emergency Management Coordinator, City of El Segundo Fire Dept

After a brief stint in the US Army, Jeff started as a volunteer firefighter in Maryland on April 6, 1976.  After training Jeff worked his way up through the ranks.  He became an EMT in 1979 and then went on to become an officer in the Fire Department. Jeff started volunteering with the Dorchester County Civil Defense Agency (now Dorchester County Emergency Management). He also became a Haz-Mat Technician in 1993. In 1995, Jeff was appointed Radio Officer (volunteer) to assist with communications during disasters and exercises.  In 1999, he was appointed Assistant Director (volunteer) at the same Agency and was also the LEPC chairman.  As the County was in a plume-zone and an ingestion zone for a Nuclear Power Plant, Jeff participated in yearly exercises, in many positions, for that purpose. In October 2002, Jeff accepted a full-time position with the Wicomico County Emergency Management Agency as an Emergency Management Technician.  Besides the Emergency Management skills needed for the job, one of the other requirements of the job was to be certified as a Haz-Mat Technician because he assisted the multiple fire departments in that county and others for mutual aid.  Jeff was on call 24/7 for a week on/week off, and would respond to all haz-mat calls as requested, that would normally be taken care of by the Maryland Department of Environment, in that area. In October 2006, Jeff was awarded the Firefighters’ Hall of Fame for Dorchester County.  In January 2007, Jeff left the firefighting and the Emergency Management in Maryland and accepted the position of Emergency Services Coordinator for the El Segundo Fire Department, where he oversees the Emergency Management functions for the City.  Jeff also manages the C.E.R.T. program and the R.A.C.E.S. program.  He has implemented the Crisis Information Management System (CIMS) program, WebEOC for the city to use for emergencies and for daily use in the future.  Jeff is one  of eighteen people internationally that sit on the Users’ Advisory Board (UAB) for WebEOC.  Jeff is also program/implementation manager for the Citizen and Employee Mass Notification System, called Everbridge. He is married and lives in Torrance.  Jeff Robinson, CEM  has a achieved the International Association of Emergency Managers IAEM/CEM® certification joining a select group of only 1440 internationally Certified Emergency Managers.
